Accommodation in Historic WindsorThe best way to experience the history and heritage of Windsor is to stay for the night. As the Mall comes alive with local families and couples, you too can spend a pleasant evening in the many cafés and restaurants. You'll also find first-rate live entertainment at several pubs on George Street. When the shops close and the day-trippers have gone, historic Windsor belongs to you. Take a late-night stroll through Thompson Square and you'll immediately sense the area's rich heritage. The quiet of this village will never be as it was a century ago, but Windsor, in the morning as it begins to stir, is magical. And when you wake up, you can enjoy an early morning walk along the river, followed by a coffee and pastry in the company of other early risers.
Accommodation in the Hawkesbury and nearby shires ranges from budget motels to upmarket resorts, but the options are limited, so we suggest making reservations ahead of your stay. Several bed and breakfasts are situated just outside Windsor. Unusual, and often in exotic surroundings, search www.hawkesburyescapes.com.au for a complete listing. Windsor Cottage
Address: 267 George Street
While we love old houses, we do love our creature comforts. For that reason we look for new owners who keep the character of historic homes but rejuvenate them with modern conveniences. This is Windsor Cottage. A stunning renovation of a petite historic house sets this accommodation apart from all others. Tall ceilings with gorgeous moulding, beautiful hardwood floors and a fantastic kitchen and bath are the result of hard work by the owners. The house is furnished with elegant, comfy furniture and exquisite wall lighting - it's really quite stunning. The house is listed with one bedroom and one bath, but a second small room with a sleeper lounge doubles as an additional bedroom. A handsome fireplace is the fête de complete for a great weekend in Windsor. Set behind a picket fence typical of the 1800s, a brick patio opens to a lovely backyard with plenty of space for a child to romp and roll. You are surrounded by many other historic buildings on George Street, a couple of antique shops, cafés and, of course, a short five-minute walk down to Howe Park and its lovely paved walk along the river. [Ask the owners about their farm-stay accommodation in Ebenezer. This is another stunning renovation!]

If you are thinking of a Hawkesbury wedding, Sebel Resort has function rooms that will satisfy all your needs - a fantastic ball room and a petite chapel for indoor weddings.
