A Girlfriend’s Guide to Travel – Spring or AutumnWomen’s publications often portray you as either “dressed for success”, dressed for the theatre or lounging in beautiful attire on a relaxed weekend morning. Who writes these articles? Who has time for a bubble bath? Between the job and a busy home life, you’re overworked, possibly underpaid and multi-tasked to the hilt. Frankly, a night “off” or a bubble bath just won’t cut it anymore. What you need is a weekend away – preferably with a like-minded girlfriend who can relate to your need to unwind. Windsor and the Hawkesbury has some fine “take me away” respites, ideal for recharging the body’s batteries and lifting sagging spirits. A spring getaway before the dreaded school holidays may be just what you need. And in autumn, when the weather has cooled, leaves are beginning to change colour and the kids are back in school – what a great time to travel
Women – sisters, mothers and daughters, girlfriends or reunited flatmates – are part of a growing travel trend. Women are discovering that travelling together is a great way to “network, discuss common interests, try outdoor adventures in a non-competitive environment, get pampered on spa tours, shop, talk over tea, learn and simply have fun”. So, throw your bag in the bus and kick back, girl! This time’s for you! 8:30 am Start your girls’ weekend with a customised tour provided by a Hawkesbury tour or coach company. Roses, aromatherapy, essential oils, blended oils, geraniums – perhaps a massage is in order. A beautifully served tea and lunch. Sound enticing? The day will be planned to your wishes. 9:30am First stop: Devonshire tea – freshly baked scones, home made jams, teas and coffee. “I must be dreaming!” 11:00 am Second on the Agenda: You want a quick thrill in your adventure? You’ll find it at the Indy 800 (go karts) in Wilberforce. With newly purchased European cars this 800-metre course will set your adrenals rushing and your heart a-racing. And you’ll look so smart in the new European race suits! A bonus at this site: you can see a beautiful array of butterfly specimens, truly nature’s spectacle in the Hodgskin family’s personal collection. Now back to the bus… 12:30 pm Lunch with a vintner: add a Hawkesbury wine, or two, perhaps even three, with a delectable slow, long lunch. Now reality has kicked in – this is no dream, you are on holiday! 2:00 pm Back onboard, the chatter now turns to giggles. Shoes are kicked off. Naughty stories and gossip fill the afternoon as you proceed through the heritage locations – the old churches, the observatory, the old courthouse of Windsor – with the next stop eagerly anticipated. 2:40 pm Ah, a spa: a facial, a pedicure, perhaps tinting? A massage to complete your unwinding? Perhaps a touch-up spray to that fading tan will perk up your spirits. You feel beautiful once again! 4:30 pm Back onboard for your final adventure – a local produce farm. (Hawkesbury is known for its wonderful fresh produce.) Here you can pick up yummy cheeses, chutneys, fresh fruit and vegetables – all you can carry! 6:00 pm On to your accommodation – a quiet settles over the group, relaxed and hassle-free. There is time for a quick refresher nap and bath before dinner at 8. “How sweet it is”! Where do you sign up? Good AZ Gold Coach Tours or Hawkesbury Sightseeing Tours will create an indulgent day for you and your girlfriends. From a central meeting point, a deluxe vehicle collects you in the morning and delivers you to your accommodation at the end of a fun-packed day. They all but tuck you in at midnight! So leave the driving to these professionals – they never tell your secrets! Villa Thalgo at the Sebel Resort
